![]() ![]() ![]() As kids we all dream of something amazing to happen to us, whether it be becoming a famous singer, a sports star or, in this case, discovering a way to explore space and visit aliens, we all dream of something more. Although it bombed in the box office, it has since captured the hearts and minds of kids from the 80’s and beyond. This is one of those films that has become a cult classic. ![]() I won’t ruin it for you, but they do make contact and it is out of this world! So, I give you, Explorers (1985).Įxplorers, directed by Joe Dante, follows a young kid named Ben (played by a young Ethan Hawke) who literally has dreams about an alien technology that lead him and his friends, Wolfgang and Darren (played by River Phoenix and Jason Presson respectively) to build a working space ship (dubbed ‘The Thunder Road’) that takes them into the unknown. I could not even fathom how many times I have seen this particular movie and it was indeed a pleasure to watch it again for this review. It is a film that was, to me, amazing the first time I saw it and continues to be amazing to this day. The one we are discussing today is not one of those. Some seem amazing and incredible when you are eight or ten but in your older age you find yourself questioning how you could have possibly like that film. Some movies of your youth do not age well.
